Presentation by Ian Cusson

Wednesday, July 9, 2025 @ 2:00 pm

Free

Join us for a landmark moment in Canadian music as the Collingwood Music Festival proudly presents the world premiere of a bold new work by acclaimed composer Ian Cusson. Commissioned especially for this year’s festival, the piece explores the complex and ever-evolving relationship between humanity and artificial intelligence — a subject as thought-provoking as it is timely.

In the choral études, Dance Dance Dance, Cusson uses a series of surreal AI-generated videos as the inspiration for and backdrop to a work that explores our relationship with technology and art-making in the context of late-stage capitalism. The six virtuosic movements ride the knife edge between the absurd and the sublime.

With his signature blend of emotional depth and striking originality, Cusson delves into questions of consciousness, creativity, and what it means to be human in an age of machines.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience a major new work by one of Canada’s leading composers — a world premiere that pushes boundaries and sparks conversation.

Before the performance, the composer himself will take the stage to introduce the work and share insights into his creative process.
