Mark Fewer & Friends
Wednesday, July 15 @ 7:00 pm

This program features youth in many forms. Beginning with one of Joseph Haydn’s earlier quartets (he wrote 68!), it is full of the invention and humour that string players love and trust – no wonder he has garnered the nickname “Papa Joe”. Immediately after Haydn, a work by the young Canadian composer Jared Miller entitled “Follow”, premiered at the Stratford Summer Music Festival to celebrate their 25th Anniversary Season. Commissioned by Robert Lemon in memory of his late partner Robert Ledingham, the work is filled with discovery, joy, and ultimately peace. To conclude, one of the most popular works in the chamber music repertoire (still – after 200 years), the famous string Octet of Felix Mendelssohn, all of 16 years old when he wrote it.
