Julia Mirzoev

Violin

Toronto native Julia Mirzoev is noted for her “warm tone, grace, and fierce attack” (California Music Center). Recognized as one of CBC’s “Top 30 Classical Musicians Under 30,” her accolades include top prizes at the Michael Hill, Irving M. Klein, and OSM competitions, and the Golden Violin grand prize from McGill. An internationally recognized soloist, Julia has performed at Carnegie Hall, Koerner Hall, and the Banff Centre. She has appeared with the Toronto Symphony, Sinfonia Toronto, and the Montréal Bach Festival Orchestra. A passionate chamber musician and winner of the Yale Chamber Music competition, she is a founding member of the Myriade String Quartet and has collaborated with artists such as Anthony Marwood and the Gryphon Trio’s Annalee Patipatanakoon. Recent highlights include appearances with Ottawa Chamberfest and Stratford Summer Music. Upcoming engagements feature Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole with the Newfoundland Symphony and recitals at Pro Musica. A graduate of the University of Toronto, McGill, and Yale, Julia’s mentors include Andrew Wan and Ani Kavafian. Deeply committed to pedagogy, she coaches at the Royal Conservatory’s Taylor Academy and L’Orchestre des Jeunes du Mont-Royal. A Rebanks Fellowship alumna, Julia performs on the 1747 “Palmason” Janarius Gagliano, generously on loan from the Canada Council for the Arts Musical Instrument Bank.
