Beth Silver
Cello
Beth Silver (M.Mus) is a Toronto-based freelancer admired for her expressive playing and ability to capture spontaneity within interactive chamber settings. A versatile musician, she is equally at home in traditional classical ensembles as she is arranging, improvising, and exploring new voices for the cello across diverse genres. Since 2018, Beth has toured extensively with the Ladom Ensemble and has maintained a long-standing duo with pianist Jenna Richards since 2013. She is also the newest member of the Eastern European polyphonic group BLISK. Her festival appearances span the globe, including the Salzburg Kammermusik Festival, Toronto Jazz Fest, Glasgow’s Celtic Connections, and Ottawa Chamberfest. A prolific studio artist, Beth has arranged and recorded for Juno-nominated projects ranging from folk and funk to prog rock and flamenco. Her work also extends to soundtracks for film, television, and theatre. As a member of the Grammy-nominated Yiddish Glory, she has become a unique voice in the global klezmer community. Her deep research into Jewish and Eastern European music includes residencies in Romania to resurrect Maramureșean musical archives. The recipient of grants from the Canada Council, Beth’s honors include a Canadian Folk Music Award and the Ben Steinberg Musical Legacy Award. When not performing, she enjoys painting, yoga, and life in Toronto’s west end.
